Top Ten Bands to Be In the Heavy Metal Hall of Fame


only qualification is their first albom be released 25 years ago.this is not a ‘best metal bands’ list, rather a list of legendary classic metal bands that need to be remembered.

1.iron maiden

iron maiden are an english heavy metal band formed in leyton, east london, in 1975 by bassist and primary songwriter steve harris. the band’s discography has grown to thirty-eight alboms, including sixteen studio alboms, eleven live alboms, four eps, and seven compilations.

2.judas priest

 

judas priest are a british heavy metal band formed in birmingham, england, in 1969. the band has sold over 45 million alboms to date. despite an innovative and pioneering body of work in the latter half of the 1970s, the band struggled with indifferently-produced records, repeated changes of drummer and a lack of major commercial success or attention until 1980, when they adopted a more simplified sound on the albom british steel, which helped shoot them to rock superstar status. in 1989, they were named as defendants in an unsuccessful lawsuit alleging that subliminal messages on the song “better by you, better than me” had caused the suicide attempts of two young men.

3.black sabbath

black sabbath are an english rock band, formed in birmingham in 1968, by guitarist and main songwriter tony iommi, bassist and main lyricist geezer butler, singer ozzy osbourne, and drummer bill ward. the band have since experienced multiple line-up changes, with guitarist iommi being the only constant presence in the band through the years. originally formed in 1968 as a blues rock band, the group soon adopted the black sabbath moniker and began incorporating occult themes with horror-inspired lyrics and tuned-down guitars. despite an association with these two themes, black sabbath also composed songs dealing with social instability, political corruption, the dangers of drug abuse and apocalyptic prophecies of the horrors of war.

4.metallica

metallica is an american heavy metal band formed in los angeles, california. metallica was formed in 1981 when vocalist/guitarist james hetfield responded to an advertisement posted by drummer lars ulrich in a local newspaper. the band’s current line-up comprises founding members hetfield and ulrich, longtime lead guitarist kirk hammett and bassist robert trujillo. lead guitarist dave mustaine and bassists ron mcgovney, cliff burton and jason newsted are former members of the band. metallica collaborated over a long period with producer bob rock, who produced all of the band’s alboms from 1990 to 2003 and served as a temporary bassist between the departure of newsted and the hiring of trujillo.

5.motörhead

 

motörhead released 23 studio alboms, 10 live recordings, 12 compilation alboms, and five eps over a career spanning 40 years. usually a power trio, they had particular success in the early 1980s with several successful singles in the uk top 40 chart. the alboms overkill, bomber, ace of spades, and particularly no sleep ’til hammersmith cemented motörhead’s reputation as a top-tier rock band.

6.megadeth

 

megadeth is an american thrash metal band from los angeles, california. the group was formed in 1983 by guitarist dave mustaine and bassist david ellefson, shortly after mustaine’s dismissal from metallica. a pioneer of the american thrash metal scene, the band is credited as one of the genre’s “big four” with anthrax, metallica and slayer, responsible for thrash metal’s development and popularization. megadeth plays in a technical style, featuring fast rhythm sections and complex arrangements. themes of death, war, politics and religion are prominent in the group’s lyrics.

7.dio

 

dio was an american heavy metal band formed in 1982 and led by vocalist ronnie james dio, after he left black sabbath with intentions to form a new band with fellow former black sabbath member, drummer vinny appice. the name dio was chosen because it made sense from a commercial standpoint, as the name was already well known at that time.

the band released ten studio alboms and had numerous line-up changes over the years with ronnie james dio having been the only constant member. guitarists have included craig goldy (most recent guitarist), doug aldrich, vivian campbell, warren demartini , tracy g, jake e. lee and rowan robertson.

the band dissolved in 2010 when ronnie james dio died of stomach cancer at the age of 67. the band has sold more than 10 million copies of alboms worldwide.

8.slayer

 

slayer is an american thrash metal band from huntington park, california, formed in 1981 by guitarists jeff hanneman and kerry king. slayer rose to fame with its 1986 release reign in blood, and is credited as one of the “big four” thrash metal bands, along with metallica, megadeth, and anthrax. since its debut albom in 1983, the band has released twelve studio alboms, two live alboms, a box set, six music videos, two extended plays and a cover albom. four of the band’s studio alboms have received gold certification in the united states. the band has received five grammy nominations, winning one in 2007 for the song “eyes of the insane”, and one in 2008 for the song “final six” (both from 2006’s christ illusion). slayer has also played at several music festivals worldwide, including unholy alliance, download and ozzfest.

9.death

 

death was an american death metal band from orlando, florida, founded in 1983 by guitarist and vocalist chuck schuldiner. death is considered to be one of the most influential bands in heavy metal and a pioneering force in death metal. its debut albom,scream gore, has been widely regarded as the first death metal record, while the band’s driving force, chuck schuldiner, is acknowledged as the originator of extreme metal. the band ceased to exist after schuldiner died of brain cancer in december 2001, but remains an enduring metal brand.

10.anthrax

 

anthrax is an american thrash metal band from new york city, formed in 1981 by guitarist scott ian and bassist dan lilker. the group was considered one of the leaders of the thrash metal scene during the 1980s. of the “big four” thrash metal bands (the others being metallica, megadeth and slayer), anthrax were the only band from the east coast. as of 2016, the band has released eleven studio alboms, a number of singles and an ep with american hip hop group public enemy. according to nielsen soundscan, anthrax sold 2.5 million records in the united states from 1991 to 2004, with worldwide sales of 10 million.
